The Humans Behind Our Food

The Humans Behind Our Food

Not Much Has Changed is a Myriad Original film that journeys through the often unnoticed world of immigrant and child labor in America's agriculture.

Unfortunately, the resilience and struggles of immigrants are often overlooked.

Director Max Zampieri

A Voice for Change

Max Zampieri, the film’s creator, worked alongside Yesenia Cuello to create the film. As a former child farmworker herself, Yesenia’s advocacy journey began as a teenager working in tobacco fields.

Today she is the co-founder and Executive Director of NC FIELD (North Carolina Focusing on Increasing Education Leadership and Dignity). The nonprofit works continuously to provide food and healthcare services to the members of their community to ensure a strong, inclusive rural North Carolina

Through this film, I hope to spark essential conversations about labor, dignity, systemic inequity, and the invisible work of Latinxs that are feeding us.

Director, Max Zampieri

Advocacy in Action

Yesenia’s vision is rooted in empowering agricultural workers with the tools and resources needed to effectively address systemic issues and advocate for what they need in order to live happier, healthier lives.

Through a blend of personal narrative, intimate interviews, cultural exploration, and archival footage, Not Much Has Changed reveals Yesenia's untold story and sparks essential conversations about labor, dignity, and systemic inequity. The film invites viewers to see the world through a Latinx perspective while showcasing that, despite progress, not much has changed.

The short film is streaming now on WaterBear.
