Farming for a Hopeful Future

Roots of Renewal is a Myriad Original documentary in partnership with Sustainable Harvest International (SHI). The film follows environmental advocate Flo Reed as she journeys across Central America to reveal the transformative power of small-scale farms.

Myriad Director, Max Zampieri, followed three farmers in the film: Doña Isabel Montoya, Gerson Dominguez, and Maria Rodríguez. They are guided by the principles of agroecology to feed their communities and play a critical role in healing the planet.

Partners For the Planet

The documentary explores the interconnectedness of food, environment, and climate, featuring expert voices like Bill McKibben, Vandana Shiva, Eric Toensmeier, Paul Luu, and Hans Herren, who explain how these regenerative practices can play a key role in reversing environmental degradation and ensuring a sustainable future.

The family farmers we featured are improving their livelihoods and the planet with these practices.

Planting Hope

To date, Sustainable Harvest International has helped 4,000 low-income farmers restore 30,000 acres while planting 5 million trees. And they’re just getting started.

Roots of Renewal brings forward a powerful message: small-scale farmers, with the proper support, offer us tremendous hope for a resilient planet.
