Do Something: Roots of Renewal Screening at Super South Summit

Article by Myriad Partner, Tony Cope

The more you understand about the problems our world is facing, the more difficult it feels to do anything meaningful to help our planet recover.

Most people feel they need to do everything they can, which leads to an overwhelming feeling of futility and hopelessness. The key is to find your small piece in all of this and get engaged.

The Chinese expression for crisis consists of two characters. The first is a symbol for danger; the second is a symbol for opportunity.

Al Gore, An Inconvenient Truth

It’s been almost 25 years since the Myriad team went to see An Inconvenient Truth. It made a hell of an impression. After distilling everything and every emotion coming out of that experience, we were left with a single mantra: Do Something!

It was the core driver for our first documentary, Planting Hope. We had met the people behind the amazing organization Sustainable Harvest International (SHI).

They work one-on-one with family farmers in Central America, helping them adopt regenerative agriculture practices that nourish people, communities, and the planet.

Planting Hope was our attempt to convey the profoundly good impact Sustainable Harvest International had on entire communities.

Tony Cope, Director of Planting Hope

Almost 20 years later, we found ourselves back in Central America with SHI to film Roots of Renewal. The documentary tells the story of the inspiring revolution within regenerative agriculture.

Roots of Renewal screened at the Super South Sustainability Conference in Atlanta on April 16th, 2025. It was an overwhelming and inspiring immersion into a community of ingenious people finding transformative and resilient solutions to climate change.

Flo Reed, the founder of SHI, attended Super South with several of us from Myriad. Together we got lost in the purpose of so many others working to heal our planet.

After the inspiring conference, we were left with a single guiding thought: our fear must be turned into fuel. Use every opportunity to do the best we can, with what we have, as often as possible. Do something.
