Southern Documentary Fund Partners with Myriad for The Great Cover Up
We are proud to announce the collaboration between Myriad and Southern Documentary Fund with our latest Myriad Original. Meet the rockstars at the center of The Great Cover Up, a documentary about music, community and facing your fears in front of a sold out crowd.
Our most eclectic Myriad Original, The Great Cover Up, has been accepted into the Southern Documentary Fund (SDF) fiscal sponsorship program. SDF is a leading advocate for documentary films in the Southeast, and Myriad has looked up to them for years. We are simply thrilled to be partners.
This collaboration is rooted in a shared belief of the power of media to educate and change lives.
SDF joins Artsplosure as a fiscal partner on the documentary. Artsplosure is a Raleigh based nonprofit arts and cultural event production studio. The creative communities built by both organizations mirror the impact and values of The Great Cover Up: community, passion, and activism.
After 20 years and over 500 cover bands, The Great Cover Up has grown into a community institution. It’s an unabashedly creative, silly, DIY cover band concert that celebrates individuality amongst an increasingly uniform world.
This documentary is a time capsule and tribute to Kings, a beloved Raleigh live music institution.
In The Great Cover Up documentary, our main characters, Paul Siler and Chelley Godwin, are preparing for a sold out crowd of buzzing locals for an annual fundraising event. The event features friends and community members rocking out as their favorite bands in full costumes and makeup. Every night, ticket sales go directly to a local charity.
Meet Paul Siler
Paul is a Co-Founder of Kings (and touring rockstar in a past life). Everywhere he goes, Paul finds a friend. He helped start The Great Cover Up 20 years ago and now organizes and emcees the event with his signature funky, plaid jacket.
The crowd doesn’t know which band is playing until I open the curtain. Could be Bon Jovi, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, or crowd pleaser: John Denver.
Meet Chelley Godwin
Chelley found her voice at The Great Cover Up; her first performance ever was at the event in December 2011. Now she returns with a crowd-pleasing set with background singers and a local metal band beside her
It's been really cool to watch The Great Cover Up evolve into an amazing Raleigh tradition, growing as the city grows.
By partnering with SDF and Artsplosure, Myriad looks forward to amplifying the artistic voices and the lightning in a bottle energy of a downtown Raleigh institution. You can donate to the documentary here.
